I don't think I've ever seen a piece that reaches so many conclusions with so little evidence to back up any of it.

Anybody who can not see the collosal improvements that have been made in Colombian society under Uribe's presidency is either in a state of denial, out of touch with reality, or so blinded by their own political leanings that they simply refuse to acknowledge that things are much better now than they were in the past.

Is the situation as good as it should be? Of course not! But isolating the Colombian market (that is, the Colombian people) from trade with the US will not make things better.

By the way, these Latin American countries that have taken steps to reduce their dependence on any trading partner have not neccesarrily benefited. Just look at the economic mess that is Bolivia.

Supporting the Uribe government in Colombia is the best thing the US can do now. Your interpretations range from half truths to right out lies.

I suppose in your next installment you will also call for removing the terrorist label from the FARC.

Thanks for telling the truth and hitting the nail on the head. Someone has to tell the truth and be heard. I have not been when I have said or written about this; in fact, I have been accused of being unpatriotic.

I beleive this FTA will pass by at least one vote. No proivions have been made to protect and retrain those it would displace. Thus more people who will have to make a living illegally, or join the guerrillas or the Aguilas Negras paramililitaries.

Keep up the good work. I hope you are heard and have influence with the Democratic delegation. I am sure they are not going to be told how Uribe "pacified" and "cleaned up" Medellin with the Convivir paramilitaries.

I am from Medellin, my family, one of the founding 20 families of Colombia, has been immersed in the poltiics of Colombia since the 1800s and I know the whole story.

Warm regards,

Maria
