I am Colombian, and after visiting my country last month, I am prouder than ever to say I am Colombian. Our society in Colombia is far from being perfect; however, there has been a lot of improvement with more to come. In my opinion, Plan Colombia has been a success. I was skeptical when Uribe was elected back in 2002, but, after watching the transformation on my own, I can say Colombia has changed for the better.

You forgot to mention in the article that Colombia was much poorer ten years ago, and that you could not safely take the bus to go from one place to another inside Medellin. Additionally, you forgot to mention that the city was the most dangerous in the world, and that now, Washington D.C. is more dangerous than Medellin. Ten years ago, people had less opportunity to work and emigration of Colombians to USA, Europe, and Latino America was rampant. For this reason, the tone in the article indicates a lack of extensive historical research.

In my visit, I spent a lot of time in the city and in the country as well. People are so optimistic with regards to Colombia's renewed potential, as opposed to the prevailing sentiments from ten years ago. This is the first time in my life that I have seen so many Colombians happy with their President and having some respect for Colombian governmental institutions.

Uribe might not be the perfect president, but he has given his people faith that Colombia can become a great nation, even after so many years of hardship.
