But I would like to correct one factual error: Carmen Lomellin, the Obama administration's nominee for U.S. Permanent Representative to the OAS, is not a career Foreign Service functionary like Amselem but a political appointee. Her nomination for the position, which only came on September 14, will not become effective until she's confirmed by the Senate. Given the apparent willingness of the majority party to allow Sen. Jim DeMint to obstruct and actively counter U.S. policy, there's no telling how long that confirmation will take. Lomellin has been an employee of the OAS for the last decade.
