This article accurately conveys the political situation that Haiti is facing in the wake of the earthquake -- a total vaccum. The only point I take issue with was that Preval came to DC on March 10 with a list of requests. He did not. He did not have any specific request, for more http://solutionshaiti.blogspot.com/2010/03/haitia... .

He only announced a UN Red Hat Force, whatever that is. He really missed the boat and pretty much went home with nothing new. More than 2 million people are still sleeping on the streets -- and the rainy season is upon them. Among them are 65,000 pregnant women. Haiti needs shelter and tents -- and there is little if any progress to report at this time.

Haiti needs a President as this article points out -- it's critical at this time. But don't underestimate the importance of a good administrator (given the rampant corruption in Haiti -- mostly recently perpetrated by Preval and his business cartel cronies) and don't overestimate Preval's ability to do that. His Administration has shown little interest in making progress in Haiti and has shown little ability to manage the crisis so it is no wonder that the international community has no trust in his abilities.

None of this, however, should be construed as an argument for the international community to hijack the reconstruction process http://solutionshaiti.blogspot.com/2010/02/stanle... . Preval and his cronies are not the only political force in the country. There are plenty of potential qualified leaders that could emerge if given the chance. In order to be successful in the long run, Haiti's reconstruction must be Haitian led http://solutionshaiti.blogspot.com/2010/03/haitia...
