The "misuse" of the IRC emblem in the Colombian hostage rescue is, I think, a non-issue, given the importance of the operation. In this sense, yes, the end did justify the means. The unauthorized use of the IRC emblem does not constitute a serious infraction of the rules of the game. Moreover, I am not persuaded that the FARC is properly considered as enemy combatants as envisioned in the Geneva Convention.

I don't understand why people consider terrorists the same as any other army... In my opinion, the Geneva Conventions are outdated and the terrorists get a kick out of us trying to fight the "old" way. The Geneva Conventions didn't help McCain, did they? Did they help the Israeli soldiers? The Red Cross (Red Crescent-whatever) didn't get to check to see how THEY were being treated. The terrorists are laughing at all of this.

One thing terrorists recognize is the fact that we will beat ourselves up over the way to wage war, the "proper" way. They must be hysterical over the way we argue over it all, laughing their heads off, as they chop off someone else's.

We have, the US military has, a code already. They don't need the world community of nations telling us or the Columbians how they should proceed when it comes to recovering hostages. The Palestinians use UN ambulances to carry out their terror and where is the outrage?

I think the Colombian military did well, good for President Uribe. He never should apologize. Good for the hostages..
