By Larry Birns, Director

COHA Senior Research Fellow and famed WBAI commentator William Camacaro will be leading a delegation of a limited number of persons to visit Venezuela from December 5 to December 15, 2016. Camacaro has been leading delegations to Latin America for over a decade, linking North American researchers and activists with grassroots orientation to advance social rights and participatory forms of democracy in the region. Over the years, a number of  former delegates have produced art works, documentaries, books and articles inspired by their experiences encountered on these trips.

Participants in this delegation will be able to hear other voices than those one is accustomed to hearing in the mainstream media. They will have the opportunity of encountering Venezuela’s community councils and other grassroots groups in Caracas and the neighboring states of Aragua and Miranda. The group will also get a first-hand glimpse of the various areas of social transformation taking place in Venezuela, despite the vast economic challenges and political polarization now being witnessed, including in education, healthcare, food sovereignty, and alternative media. The delegation will also include trips to touristic sites of singular interest. See the Delegation Call for articles written by members of previous delegations and obtain more details about the trip.
