The article makes several good points. It reaffirms the need of the US to engage our Latin American neighbors on several levels, especially on trade. There is no greater technologically advanced nation that the Unites States. Our ability to extract natural resources in an ecological manner is a proven fact. We should be involved in fair and mutually benefiting trade with all countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. We should double our efforts to reach out to all nations in the western hemisphere and triple our efforts toward nations like Cuba and Venezuela where political freedoms are crushed or are dying as we speak. The ability to use economic leverage and social engagement as tools to better people’s lives is no vice.

Poor assessment of Brazilian-Anglo Saxon Relations, that goes back to 1822 when its Navy was founded by Thomas Cochrane, his mate transfering all trade secrets of warfare to young Brazilian officers, Brazilian Navy Patron learning the use of chronometer guided by Taylor... i.e.: to navigate you need to find the time then the stars... Later, Brazil was VITAL ally in WWI and WWII to US and all that is not revered in the US nor UK... Do you realize that Brazil fought WWII both in Italy and during 4 year in South Atlantic. My grandfather was the Liaison Officer of then Forth Fleet and the Brazilian Navy that, at the end, was released from South Atlantic to face the Pacific Theater, Brazil handling South Atlantic Command of Naval Operations by the end of WWII.
