CAFTA is potentially great for Costa Rica and its people. Currently the banks in Costa Rica hold massive cash reserves and people like Oscar Arias has kept the Costa Rican people from being able to borrow money to start businesses and buy their own homes. Arias is no better than an Iraqi war lord, who bought up huge land masses with money he borrowed from the Costa Rican government, which in turn came from the USA, Costa Rica borrowed over 100 million dollars which Arias asked George Bush to forgive as Arias and his family stole from the Costa Rican people to buy up and monopolize the sugar industry in the country. Arais also was the one who started the monopolized ICE which is their electric company and cell phone company, which he states is cheaper than what multi national companies can offer...or so he states or has tried to convince the people of.

Arias is identical to Noregia minus the violence and death squads, He is a criminal and is depriving his own people from knowing the real truth. The electric company and phone company he started and centralized with US funds, built it up and sold it to the Costa Rican government. Arias makes huge money by keeping Cafta out of Costa Rica and allows his family who also own some of the large auto franchises and has pushed for large taxes and tarifs on vehicles making them priced out of the market. A cheap toyota passenger car costs 40% more than in the USA, but an average income of being one third of what it is in the USA. He likes to claim that losing that revenue in taxes will hurt the education and the health care system. However the point is that Arias has failed to share with the people of his own country that the main reason that they are poor is due to that he squanderrs money from the government at interest rates he dictates, essentially creating his own interest rates based on his profit margin. A great deal and a great way to manipulate how much money he makes. If the people of Costa Rica really knew how badly he has raped his own country, then they would put him in prison and seize all of his assets.

Arias also passed a law in Costa Rica recently that requires all fuel for cars across the nation have at least 8% ethanol added to the fuel. Arias owns the only distilleries in Costa Rica as he has the total monopoly on all the beer, wine and hard liquer in the country and owns all the sugar land. It is a racket and a very slippery run operation. Arias does not want multi national competition as he will be eaten alive and put out of business.

Cafta makes the argument that the reason that no or little growth takes place in latin america is due to tariffs...but the fact is that the USA places huge tariffs placed on foreign goods to protect a nation which now is producing all of their own autos offshore, but yet the large foreign companies are still charged huge dollars and are totally being squeezed out. If Toyota and Honda did not have tariffs on their cars sold in the USA they would have squeezed out Ford ( a failing company) GM ( also failing) and Chrysler ( which is now owned in the USA again as the germans at Daimler forced Chrysler out of their brand name due to that it was a shit company) The oil companies in the USA do not want Toyota and Honda and other brands to bring in diesel vehicles due to that they would shut down the big three overnight as a toyota truck selling for 30 grand would be now all of a sudden at 22 grand. Also American car companis ( whos every car are made in mexico or canada) do not tariff their own cars at the same rate. It is protectionism....but yet people flock to the reliable brands and CEO's who spent too much time playing golf now want us all to be patriotic....and to buy American....like listening to Bill Ford, a spoiled rotten punk kid, whine about how his grand pa's legacy is soon to be gone with the wind. boo hoo hoo.....he failed to listen to his customers and yet he wants us to protect his families legacy. The same thing is happening in Costa Rica.....the information is and has been manipulated by Arias as he is not telling the people all that they need to hear and not the truth.....he is telling half truths and lying to his own people as he knows that the foreign phone companies and insurance industry and beer and wine and alcohol producers are going to run him into the ground..... also the law he passed with requiring ethanol in the fuel.....it was passed as long as the ethanol was purchased only from his distilleries so he can be the sole monopoly on this product.

Costa Rica is a great place and has kicked out a lot of scum bags from Costa Rica like large oil conglomerates which are from the USa that want to come in an rape the natural resources....and a few of them almost came in....but the officials were caught taking bribes and are now in prison in Costa Rica.

Corruption is present in Latin America...but the USA is the most corrupt nation in the world, run by large corporate companies that want to rape and exploit the people.

Costa Rica can do just fine without CAFTA....but it has to start with jailing and siezing all of Arias assets which he stole from his own people, get rid of the monopolies and make the market open and free up credit and money in Costa Rica so the citizens of this country can buy their own homes, borrow money to start and run businesses,

the current problem now in Costa Rica is that foreign investors do not want to keep putting money into retail shops as locals are not forced to pay the sales tax of 12%. So gringos are not able to compete as the locals can sell their goods for 12% less as they do not record the sales. IF the standard is set to include all businesses both foreign and locals...then the tax base will increase.....but the provincial attitude is that gringos are stealing their birth rights...and in some ways that is so...but it is from people like Oscar Arias who steal daily from the people and brain wash them into making this a gringo problem and a Cafta problem...which is a lie and bullshit.

Arias should have to account for how he has bought and passed laws in his own contries to own all the monopolies....

Replacing the issues and problems with Cafta and ignoring the current local and national problems in Costa Rica will only compound the issues and problems. If large banks can come into Costa Rica and offer up funds for the locals to put the Arias family out of business...then I would agree with it and then free trade would be great, but currently the only free trade is for the people in power and the people holding all of the money. Costa Ricans need to pay attention and get ready to start their own businesses...and to take back their market share...

Arias and his governement have allowed the gringos and all others to come in and steal his land as long as he gets to get some more bribes and kickbacks.....and make the corruption available to just him and his people...

Wake up and pay attention. Cafta will destroy Costa Rica and its natural beauty and turn in into another Haiti.....crime will go thru the roof, the cocaine problem will get further out of control than it is and violent crimes will escalate...
