Minustah has been a complete failure in Haiti!
Critically injured earthquake victims watched doctors and nurses walk away from a field hospital Friday night after United Nations officials ordered a medical team to evacuate the area out of security concerns

MINUSTAH simply does not exist in poor neighborhoods or in the city
center. They're probably taking care of the bigwigs of the UN (as
their civilian building collapsed) and their own military who have
died.

what about Guyana's $ 1 miilion...and that Country isright above Haiti in terms of absolute poverty and ridden with ethnic divisions...what that country needs is strong and aggressive external leadership and conditionality to build basic infrastructure and then a strong middle and entrepreneurial class

I've one correction and one point to add to my last comment. Brazil is sending not 1 but 2 planes full with medicine, doctors, nurses and dentists to Haiti. And, although the Brazilian official commitment of 15 million (it was initially 10 million but got increased afterwards) is not even close to the one made by the U.S., Brazil is still recovering from the serious floods that hit the country a couple of weeks ago . So, its support to Haiti, in spite of its own misfortune, is something to be praised.

I liked the way COHA highlighted Brazil's responsibility to the Haiti's tragedy. If I remember well, Brazil had chose to lead MINUSTAH because a success in Haiti would strengthen its claim to a permanent seat in the Security Council. With Haiti being hit by an earthquake, the mission just became even harder. So, it is good to know that the Brazilian government is not hiding behind the many obstacles posed by such crisis, but is rather willing to do its part and do it well. And I truly hope that Bill Clinton, as the new UN envoy to Haiti, will be of great assistance proving guidance during the the emergency period. I am also very proud of the U.S. response as well. U.S. wealthy is incomparable, and so was its willingness to raise funds for Haiti--U.N. and Brazil committed 10 millions each, while President Obama committed 100 million. I don't mean this as a competition, but as a demonstration of how international players are really trying to do their best to help Haiti. And that's great!
