Morales once said that fighting cocaine should be done on the consumption side, but hasn't the use of cocaine in the US declined due to the corresponding rise of the much easier to make and more devastating methamphetamine? Or, even more disturbingly, an increasing amount of cocaine production is being consumed in Latin America itself?

Let's hope that Morales follows through on his promise to give the profits of Lithium processing to the people in the form of schools and hospitals, not the corporations. I am sure he's consulted Chavez on this.

I am an undergraduate North American student writing this response from Potosí. I am headed to Uyuni this week to conduct a preliminary investigation on local perspectives surrounding the explotation of lithium. Whether the Salar de Uyuni is worth exploiting is the first question. If it is, the way Bolivia will go about it has the potential to mark a historical change in this country, one where natural resources benefit the people and the state. I look forward to updates from COHA on this topic.
